Finally had a chance to get out again while in Pennsylvania. I went back to the old homesite I have been hunting.

Second signal was a 1891 Indian Head Cent.

Couldn't find any more signals in the area where I already found 3 keepers (in previous hunts), but wanted to continue the hunt... so I worked my way back toward the front of the house. Was clearing away some of the shallow targets when I got a nice signal indicating penny/dime at 2.5". I imagined the possibility of a silver dime. Dug hole, flipped sod, and bullseyed the coin in the loose soil occupying the hole. However it was quarter sized.

Turned out to be a nice 1917 Variety 1 Standing Liberty Quarter about VG condition. :)

I had found one other 1917 SLQ in 2000 but it was nearly dateless, the obverse made it clear that it was a Variety 1.

Started to rain soon after and I wasn't getting any more hits. So packed up and went home.
