1st timer here--picked up a box of nickels a couple days ago and found the following:

(1x) 1936 Buffalo (in great condition)
(2x) ???? Buffalo (dates are worn off)
(11x) 1940-1949 (None are war nickels)
(25x) 1950-1959
(6x) 1960
(1) "Norge 5" (Norwegian?)

Not sure if this is considered above or below avg, but I had a lot of fun. Of course, the very first roll had the 1936 buffalo and the very last roll had the other two buffaloes, lol.

I'd consider that about average or better results and a good box. I figure if I can find at least one dated buffalo, one war nickel, or one semi-key date or the very rare key date '50D Jefferson in a box then I haven't been skunked and I'm happy. Nickels are usually fun because of the variety and relative consistency of finds.

Good luck and HH!

Awesome, good to know man, thanks! I'm about 10 rolls from finishing my second nickel box now, and I haven't found anything special yet, unless of course, this 1990-D with no "FS" is legit, which I'm gonna post a thread about for polls, etc, shortly.

Here's some shots of the buffaloes though, any idea what the two without dates might be?

The '36 buffalo looks like its in really nice condition, probably about VF/VF+ I'd guess. That last buffalo looks like a week date/partial date '20 to me. Nice finds.

Edit: I meant that last one looks like a weak date/partial date '20 lol :tongue3:

That box is above average, I usually average 1 buffalo nickel and 1 war nickel per box. Nice!!
