I read something about Copper Culture at the top of the forum. I didn't completely understand that... Anyways these were all legal finds that washed out of the riverbank. In the photo with the "red" stuff, that is red ochre. You can see 5 of the blades sticking out of the sand. My brother found this. =] A larger 7+ inch bullseye blade was also found but I can't seem to find a photo of it.

Never heard you couldnt look for arrowheads in rivers in Ohio maybe the ones that run thru state or federal property I talked with a ranger on the Scioto river about head hunting he said good luck.

As I understand it, any navigable waterway is public domain, but the river bed and banks belong to the land owner.

Welcome to t-net. Nice adena cache. It is neat to see the tool in it's various stages of production. Not often that a cahe drops out and is not quickly lost to time. The ochre is pretty neat. I would have kept the sand.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you =] We did keep the ochre. It goes with the cache. =]

As for being legal, of course. Look up your state's "public trust" and see what you can come up with. In our Indiana laws one of the sentences says the river is public up to the "normal high water line". I interpret that as being up at the top of the bank where grass and other vegetation begins to grow. It was supposed to remain public as a means to get from one place to another without trespassing. The river is a highway after all.

Last year was the best year of my life in terms of artifacts. My display case filled up within a couple months. My all time favorite time to hunt is early spring after the river floods and then rapidly drops. A nice rain or 2 afterwards washes the silt off of anything that fell out of the bank. It is very exciting to be the first person to the site. You never know what you're gonna find! Good luck to you!

I used to predominately hunt fields but the river became my favorite area very quickly ;)

You get better quality on waterways with less chance of plow damage. I like to hunt my fields by the water. Once they come out though they are quickly lost.

No problem :) I wish I could find a picture of the 7 incher that went with this cache! It had a perfect bullseye in it.
That's remarkable. I LOVE the large blades...

Thanks so much for showing us!
