Hello Tnet friends!

Today Ron and I took off of work to head up north to do some detecting!
We both had a great day!! Ron talked me into leaving my XLT in the car
and try out his new MineLab E-Trac, while he used his Explorer SE. I
used that thing ALL DAY!!! WOW ~ what a great machine! It took a
little getting use to ~ but I sure like the way it works! Ron has let
me use his SE in the past and I like it too, but it's hard to use when
you're so use to a different detector.

Here's what I dug on my first outing with the E-Trac:

1905-S Barber Half dollar
1936-S Mercury Dime
1923-S Buffalo Nickel
1940-S Jefferson 5c
8 Wheats ~ 18-S, 21-S, 29-S, 29-S, 30-S, 44-S, 45, & 57-D
6 clad 25c's
11 clad 10c's
1 modern nickel
48 memorial cents
1936 Junior Texas Ranger toy badge

Also, I dug a pocket knife that I'm pretty sure has real silver side
pieces ~ it's marked "830 BH". I assume that means it's 83% silver,
right? Anyone know what BH means? The poor thing fell all apart when I
recovered it ~ the middle part rusted all away leaving just the silver
side pieces.

So now I need to get me a E-Trac!! Too bad I'm broke and can't afford
one. Lucky for me that my buddy Ron will let me use his SE or E-Trac
when ever we go out together. I still love my XLT ~ it's found me lots
of treasures over the years ~ but Ron's E-Trac and me sure had a lot of
fun together today!

The Merc dime is my silver coin find #101 for the year. And the Barber Half is #102!!

Thanks for looking!
Neil

How deep was that half?

Do you think that recovering it might not have been possible with the XLT?

It was about 6 inches deep! I'm sure my XLT would have got it too ~ it was a screamer!! I bet even a low end Radio Shack detector would have found it! OK ~ maybe not, but it was a good target.

I've dug four other silver halves this year with my XLT ~ all several were inches deep.

THANKS!
Neil

Congratulations on a fine day of hunting!!
The E-Trak is a great machine and glad Ron talked you into using it.
The silver coins, wheats, buffs and trinkets are all good finds and like someone mentioned,
you could sell MOST of your silver and get you an E-Trak!! :icon_sunny:
Hope to hook up with you and Ron sometime this weekend.

Dang, Neil!! :o :o

That's a tremendous outing for using an E-Trac for the first time!! I think you're sold on that machine. You really should get one....just need the $$$.

Congrats on your Barber Half!! That's a tough find. I've only got one in all my years of detecting.

AWESOME!!

Hi Kip!

How's your weather there? Any snow yet? I hope you find some treasures at the little swimming lake!

Wow that's an eye-popper! What would it take now to beat that for find of the month? Probably a silver dollar or gold coin. Well, since I've never found either one, I guess I'll have to get busy!!!! Or maybe a seated half?? That would take some doing!

Congratulations and see you soon.
