So me and my wife are up in the Gila mtns, we go by several old forts and are up in the middle of nowhere. I need to relieve myself,so I randomly pull of the side of the road. My wife says, that looks likes great spot, get the detector out. Well it is just about dark and the only light I have is from the pinpointer. So I get a slamming hit in the 60's and it's the only target in about a 20x20 ft area so I mark it and keep swinging. Nothing, so I say at least there is one target. Then since I'm about 50 yards from my truck I say, I need something to dig with. I kid you not,I reach for what looked like a straight stick and it's a wooden spoon. I'm thinking that the stars are aligning. Then this pops out!!!

After seeing the back we determined it is a cartridge box plate and not a belt buckle. Thanks for looking!!!! I'm still geeking out.

Congratulations! Did you keep your wooden spoon too? Sub 8-)

What a NICE plate! And it looks to be an EARLY one, too!

I found a belt plate in about that shape, found in Ohio, and mine is in it's own display case.

That's a sick find buddy!

That sure is a nice find. i have family close to gila in Silver. that find makes me wanna get up there more now. lol congrats

Well before driving back we went back to the spot.... Obviously! And although we were hoping for some good uniform pieces we ended up with ammo. Still happy and had a great hunt with the wife.

Very very nice find. Congrats. A plate is high in my wish list!

Cool thing is that the larger round ball was found inches from a fired 3 ringer. Makes me think it was dropped after being shot at! Who knows?
