Found this 1907 Liberty Nickel and 1916 Buffalo Nickel today at an old school house site that dates back to at least 1875. These were both firsts for me.
Congrats on your firsts. It's always nice to check one off the bucket list, let alone two. I might mention, it tells me that if your finding old nickels you're not missing much else. Detected a well hunted school yard last year and focused on the signals others might pass, especially nickels. Found 28 nickels in a few hours including Buffalos and a V, a number of silver dimes and a 14k frame from a cameo pin. When in doubt, dig it. Way to go on your Buffalo and V nickel.

Mitzki5,
Nice finds man! Found my first Liberty Nickle this past week. I'm up near Waukeegan,IL if you're interested in hunting or just shooting the breeze just PM me. I'm all for road trips n hunting as i still consider myself a rookie. I've got a few places I'm working permissions on up here. Keep up the hunting man!
Congratulations!
I can't tell, but use a magnifier on the 6, of the 1916 P (P will not show), to see if there is any sign of doubling. Look it up on line to see what that looks like. If it is a 1916 Double Die, even in this condition, could surprise you. But if there is a mint mark 'D or S' on the reverse below the FIVE CENTS
(x) <---here, then the value is much lower. But still a great find. DON'T WASH ANY MORE. That brings the value way down.
