I am posting this here in the hope someone has one of these and
can help me.
At the time I did not know much about MD'ing and was sold
a goldstrike. I have it about 4 yrs. now and I am still trying to
figure it out. I do not have any hope of ever using it for nugget
hunting as I live in S.E. PA. The unit came with the standard coil
and the smaller one.
I have tried it in the back yard and found a refrigerator at 3' and
a tire rim at 2.5'. It is a great unit for finding everything and more
at some crazy depths. But drives me crazy because I cannot get it
to stop sounding off with all the trash. If there is a tiny paper
staple there it will find it.
If someone has some tips or hints I might be able to try I would
really appreciate it.
If there is no hope I am probably going to sell it. I am tired of
digging 18" to find a nail or pull tab.
Thank you
Joe

The Goldstrike was over hyped and a lemon from the start, Fisher went there own way, instead of listening to the guys that used them in the field. Other than the Garrett Gold Stinger, it was prob. the worst gold detector ever made. But for coins, its prob. ok. if you can put up with the chatter. Grubstake Ps if I were you, I'd sell it and get a Whites or a minelab, or Tesoro ST, all great detectors for gold or coins.

Thank you for the replies. I have to agree with the field test as to
the settings for the threshold and the sens. I have been playing
around the house with it a lot and It is very noisy and sometimes
guite discouraging. I have tried to keep track of the different
readings as to the different targets. As I have seen others
referring to the numbers with the DFX and their finds. But there
does not seem to be any pattern with the GS.
I think at this point I may just take the loss and if I get a
reasonable offer sell or trade the GS.
