"Assuming" that you have a water machine suitable to the elements......

“Generally speaking”, there will be more targets in the dry & wet sand, however, the ratio of quality finds will be much higher in the water even though the targets can be very sparse. If you’re someone who doesn’t like/enjoy going long periods of time without finding a target then you’ll probably want to hunt the dry and wet sand areas. On the other hand, if you don’t mind fighting the current and surf and going long periods of time without a hit then you may want to spend the day in the water. Most successful water hunters just enjoy being in the water weather they are finding a lot of targets or not. They enjoy the hunt as much as the finding.

Another factor is the ability to control your searching, much easier to do over the dry and wet sand because you have visual landmarks, etc., to help guide you. Controlling your hunting patterns in the water can be very difficult because there are no close landmarks, scoop drag lines, etc. If you are an experienced water hunter then this is no problem, but if you are new to water hunting then this can be very difficult and frustrating to learn, not to mention the recovery of targets in the current and surf when you can’t even see the bottom.

Again, “generally speaking”, you’ll want to focus your hunting efforts where most of the daily action is taking place on the beach you are hunting. Typically speaking, most beaches have their busier areas, just a couple of days of observation can help you to draw a better line on these areas. Some beaches will be busy from one end to the other and it really won’t matter all that much. “Watch the swimmers”, see where they congregate at high tide and then plan to hunt that same area of beach/water at low tide. Most of it really just comes down to observation.

I'm using a ace250. Had some luck on the beach with coins.
