Visited a couple of fields that seem to have been occupied between the late 1700's and mid 1800's. Some friends dug older buttons and interesting odds and ends.
Found 1 coin that is pretty toasted, but the profile matches well with a William III copper. I'd appreciate any input on what the coin might be, and on the two mystery objects in the upper left-hand corner.

That's a fine day of relic hunting. The coin is a oldie for sure, maybe a ID will be forthcoming. Congrats!

Thanks, everyone.
I'm still curious about the copper. Hoping a coin expert will weigh in.

Looks like a William III to me. The letters on a William III start with GV and a King George starts with GE. Sure looks like yours starts with GV and I believe I can see the ribbon in his hair. 1695-1701 I believe

Thanks!

awdw, mbcuce, and I are having an oldest coin contest. (Or, maybe I'm the only one, who thinks it's a contest.)

A few weeks ago, mbcuce found a 1724 George I. Didn't think any of us would ever beat that. Then Awdw found a Spanish cob, that I'm calling 1715-30. I think my William III might be 1698.

And, it's not a best-coin contest. It's an oldest-coin contest. I just have to prove that the cob coin after 1701.

Nice coin. Since we are making up dates for the cob I’ll just say that it’s older than yours. Was a good weekend though.

Thanks, Crusader! That's what it looks like to me, also. Don't think I will ever find a coin older than that.
Definately, your lucky you can read the date on yours, it's rare for me to ever get one dated over here.

Neither one of the coins has a legible date, I win by technicality with a 1724 George I
