Arrived back on the west coast of Florida last week from Ohio and first thoughts were of hitting the beaches with my CTX3030 with 17" coil. Oh yea, I also lug along my Stealth scoop the size of a front loader. Hit CWB first (one of the most heavily hunted beaches in the World, with parking at $3/hr) and spent 7 hrs on dry sand. Enjoyed every minute but these old bones aren't holding up even compared to last year; really felt it that evening and next day. The beach hadn't been crowded, and I knew this before going all that way by inspecting the Clearwater beach cam that revealed low beach attendance the last few days. Any ways, found the usual coins (about 9/hr) but nothing else except 5 pieces of junk jewelry and a fake pirate coin. FYI, even on a beach like CWB I can find dimes at about 12" all day long with my 17" coil.

At my next outing, I hit one of my favorite beaches for 5 hrs where I have done very well in past years. And I wasn't disappointed. In addition to the usual coins (11/hr), also found a Sterling necklace with Sterling pendant of a lion with stars (looks Greek, 8.64g). Also found a small (1/2") pendant with cross on the obverse and 2 saints on reverse, also looks Greek to me. Also found 800 Yen (1-500, 3-100), worth about $8.00; could spend it if I go to Japan. My U.S. coin surprise was a 1918 Lincoln cent in very worn condition (G). This is the earliest coin I have found on Florida beaches in the past 7 years. [The real old pirate treasure and Bits of Eight continue to evade my search coil.]

Last year (2016-2017) I found one gold piece per 288 coins and one silver piece per 101 coins on west coast Florida beaches (found about 1,800 coins). So far this year, I made two MD trips and found 122 US coins and 2 sterling pieces (chain, pendant). Hitting the beaches after Christmas and, depending on the weather, may hit the water with my Excal...too chicken to use my CTX3030 in the surf...Looking for my first gold piece for the 2017-2018 season and I know its out there waiting for my coil to say Hi! See ya'll next week.
