I found a boring old ax head a few days ago and posted it here. Only got two responses, since it's not rare or valuable. But there was a reason why I was excited over the ax head. It's probably from the 1800's and finding something that old usually means I've found a good spot.

Fast forward to today when I went back to the same spot. I found a couple of horseshoes, an oxen shoe and one very good find. It appears to be an 1807 draped bust LC! Very toasted, but I'll take it. I'm soaking it in mineral oil, but it doesn't look too promising. It seems to have a lot of pitting on the front.

Here's a couple of photos. Remember to pay attention to the signs, even if one of them is just a boring old ax head!

My oldest post colonial LC is a draped bust. I only had a faint outline to identify mine. Yours looks much better. Nice job!

Congrats on the LC. Took me 11 months (about 600 hours of detecting before I swung my coil over a LC. Bet you were stoked when you pulled that out of the hole! I had to do a little happy dance when the 1st one was found...

Congrats on the find. I found a toasted one about two weeks ago in a corn field. Soaking it in olive oil but still can't get a date.

Great find and good call.

Following your intuition led to a nice LC find. You have me thinking about a spot where I dug an old ax head last year. Might be time to have a second look.

And that's a beautiful coin in my book, toast and all.

Thanks, guys! I'm 95% positive it's an 1807. At a certain angle, I can see the straight line of the number 7. It may also be an 1805, but I doubt it. I don't see any curved part to the number, so that should eliminate 1805 (and 1803 as well). I'll let it soak for awhile and hope for the best.
