According to the City of Saint Louis, Forest Park is one of the largest urban park in the U.S. It's even 500 acres larger than Central Park in NYC. There have been recent major renovations to the park (the Grand Basin is spectacular) so much of the original surface areas have been bulldozed. Finding Worlds Fair era relics are unlikely. I hunted the park a long time ago and came up with some clad and only one wheatie. There is a lot of trash in the place people gather like the shelters. Perhaps searching close to the older trees since they would have been undisturbed from the renovations. There are wooded areas that could yield interesting finds but I wouldn't recommend going into the woods alone. I would not recommend straying into neighborhood parks for the same reason. Crime is a consideration in several of the neighborhoods but not in others.
