Wells are typically round, at least around here they are. Looks like an outhouse pit. DIG when dried up! I LOVE digging old outhouse pits for bottles. They are usually time capsules of old garbage. Many folks would use them for a garbage pit as well as for their intended purpose.

My first guess is, an outhouse foundation...

Next trip, sweep the leaves away and look for a wire or a piece of rope near the corners.

Old timers would hang jars or other sealed containers from the Inside corners from nails. If an old outhouse is left to rot away, there could be more there than fertilizer.

Definitely, DONT DRINK THE WATER!!!

Well, I'm glad that i didn't bet the farm on my last two guesses.....
I'd be sleeping in the street...

I'll admit it. I'm stumped.

Especially on the 10 by 10 inch square hole!

That may be that place that I have been looking for. I've been trying to put a square peg in a round hole for most of my life.

Finally, there is a square hole for that peg! I wonder where i left it?????

Don’t forget your broom and pruning shears. I can’t tell you how many photos that I have made with brush and saplings cover important spots.

You’d think that I would have already learned that, but they just don’t show until I get home...

That looks like a bear [emoji199],or a pig [emoji241]!

I would say bear, but QUINOA has info about keltic use of pigs. Either way they both say about the same thing...

Womb of the earth [emoji290].
Cave, hole or opening on some sort.

I’m sure that he will see this and expound upon the small amount of knowledge that I have about it.
If he doesn’t see it, call him to it.

Either way... Great eye for the signs, and good carry thru on the broom!

I wish that I had cleared most of my photos of things that screwup my pics!

I think this one looks like a bear climbing up the side of the rock to me but didn't have time to clean it good before it got dark
