Went panning for gold up in Clinton & Potter County last fall in a remote area that I've been doing research on about native American Indians prior and during the French and Indian War. While walking thru a small creek I seen where the bank was washed off from a recent storm. At the spot was a large layer of clay that kinda sparkled when the sun hit it. I thought Gold, yea right! I figured it probably was fools gold but I broke off a piece to check back home under a magnifying glass. I figured I would break it up and pan it out to check for gold. When I looked closer at the sample I seen that there were loads of small fossils of shells. I never could check it for gold just couldn't crush it up with those fossils in it.
