Super, dooper find! According to the 2008 red book it should go for between $1,400 and $4,200.

Oh Yeah !!!!
I'm glad to see a member finally dig one of those up. Gives the rest of us something to shoot for.

DO NOT CLEAN IT!!!

Let a professional do it.

Hal

$2000+ coin don't clean it looks real fine. Nice freaking find. Looks like you were shaking when you took the pictures.

What a find. Congratulations. That's everyones dream. I agree with the group.
"BANNER" is my vote. You deserve it.

Good find...now take a couple better pics so that this can get up on the banner!

I agree with not cleaning it, but do think it is important that you Blast the dirt off the coin with hard running water.  This will carry the dirt away without scratching the coin--if you use water only without any rubbing or brushing of any kind.

The dirt can and will scratch the coin if you put it in a 2x2 holder dirty.  And any time you handle it with that dirt on there, you also run the risk.

Bravo on not field cleaning the coin!

I don't think you have to worry yet about any clinging dirt between the letters, etc., but you should make sure there isn't any dirt on the high points of the coin, IMO.

Congratulations again on a FANTASTIC find!

I've found a few key dates in the last 13 yrs but none of them were as desirable or as
valuable as your find WTG !! on the 16D  there might even be another one
waiting for you there keep hitting that site i'm curious how deep was it ?

I usually clean my coins with a wet Q-tip ... then use the reverse side to dry it with... Congrats on your awesome find... Banner

This method will put scratches on the coin. :stop:

Please take this mans advise. DON'T clean with anything. Send it in and have it cleaned and graded by a pro. You have a super nice coin that is worth BIG bucks and I would not take the chance of reducing the value by cleaning. NICE DIG.

I got this tip from Don SJ to clean coppers so I assumed it should be alright for any other coin as long as you lightly rub the coin...

I wouldn't use it for silver coins. For copper coins it is just fine.

Awesome find,

Yes, It's in the thousands of dollars. I wouldn't handle it much and I would also get it graded.
