Can anyone help identify it? I found it on a hill in my yard in Southern California. There are no other rocks like this one, but there are tons of other rocks--the hill is made up of layers. Silt with large heavy rocks (many are 7" x 10" x 6" or so), black clay, sand with small rocks, some are hard and some are what I think is gypsum.
Thanks!

Sort of looks like it could be gypsum. What is the topography of the ground? Is it fill or natural?

It's natural, like the side of a mountain. A line of houses, with slopes in the backyard, then more houses, another slope, etc.
