axe head.jpg Me and my two brothers got out this weekend to take advantage of the beautiful weather and do some relic hunting. The site we chose however wasn't quite producing what we had anticipated. However, my brother Bill (NovaTreasure) did call me over where he had just detected and dug an 1880's Indian Head Penny. I walked over to check it out and congratulate him on his find. As I turned and was walking back to my metal detector and shovel some 25ft away still having his "Indian Head" in my thought, I look down with awe to see a very unexpected surface find staring back at me. The sun was shining down on it and what a nice surprise it was. A "Guilford Axe" laying atop the soil. It has been explained to me as well as doing my own research now that this artifact is 5,000-8,000 years old. Unbelievable! Guilford people or tribe during the Archaic Period with the most well-known origin to be that of North Carolina and up through the Appalachain Region. What started out as a relic hunt ended with a very appreciated Indian Artifact save that made my weekend and will continue to be a cherished addition to my collection for life.

As I said in the "Todays Finds" forum. That is a great piece.
