2.83 lbs but the gold is like a crystalline structure. Found a bunch of small outcrops and this was still attached to host rock after I broke host rock off of it it this was what was on the face pretty cool

Great find. As you probably already know, it is worth more to collectors as is than the gold it contains.

Good luck

Cool looking rock.
If it turns out to be gold, it would definitely be worth doing something with that outcrop.
Cannot tell from these pictures, do you have a positive id on it?
Check it with your metal detector.
The black mineral in there could be magnetic or partly ferrous which can give a false signal also.
Curious.

Do you think this is gold ore and if so what leads you to believe that?
It kind of looks a little bit like shist on quartz, but it’s hard to tell from photos.

If that's native gold that specimen alone is worth a bundle.

Yes, if it's native gold it worth a LOT.

After a little googling, it could be Limonite on quartz. But I’m no expert by far.
Here are a couple examples I found on the internet..

Something tells me we will never know.

No positive I’d yet just sent it in for assay on fri will keep everyone up dated. And I almost agree that it could be a schist but it passed standard testing soft needle leaves indention does not crumble or flake and leaves gold streak. I did acid test but my acids are so old not going to go by those results. It passed 18k but burned off on 22 k stilllike I said not conclusive due to acid being old and unreliable.

From what I can tell Limonite comes in all different shades and levels of brilliance.
Do let us know what the assay says and maybe some better pictures if it’s possible.

Better write down on a map where you found it.
