I found this in a creek where I find lots of arrowheads in Southeast Iowa, just wondering how it got there? I know we were under oceans long ago, and then stuff brought from glaciers. And someone even suggested it as an indian artifact, it being traded in from elsewhere. The second pic shows what the person thinks are the tie marks from it being tied for a necklace. Do other shark teeth have these marks? I have googled other pics of sharks teeth but they all look more triangular. With this one looking more worn or polished. Which is another reason he thinks its from a necklace because its so polished. Its 1 3/8" long X 7/8" wide X 3/8" at thickest place.
I did also post this in the indian artifact section but they havn't said much yet. Thanks for any info!

The shark which contributed your tooth didn't swim in any Iowa ocean. Iowa ocean (Paleozoic) sharks didn't have teeth like that. Either the tooth was traded north by some southern natives, or an earlier artifact hunter lost the tooth out of his necklace. I tend to believe the latter.
