found a small button

I hope someone can identify what kind of button this is and around the age of the button. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

"Great Seal" Think it was first used around 1909 by U.S. army. I have gold guilt version from my Dads army uniform he served in WWII it is quarter sized but built exactly the same.

Nice find. If the button shows any signs of having been black at some point it will likely be from the WWI time period.

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I read on here they started in 1902-present.

That said, the backmark if readable will narrow the date down.

Thank you, its hit and miss on the back mark. I will have to put it under a good magnify glass and see what I can make out.
