hello I am new to the site. I have been into rocks and minerals for as long as i can remember. I was born in Burlington VT and moved to southern WV when i was nine. I know gems and minerals are pretty much none existent here with some exceptions. I am wondering if anyone has any guess as to what this is.
the greenish colored area is somewhat transparent and the black seems way to hard to be any kind of coal. any guesses would be appriciated.

The greenish rock might be chalcedony. The black could be several things. Streak and hardness test would help us further.
