That looks like a scraper made of jasper. Nice find. You must be near the desert.

I found it in Sonoma county(northern California), at a creek east of forestville and north of Sebastopol. A friend of mine took me to the spot, he has found about 20 of various styles in the area.

just wondering where you are. Last year one of my college students found a perfect point(no chips, fluted edges, a thing of beauty) in a dry creek outside of New Braunfels, Texas. I was stunned. Where would the obsidian come from? She had another point, a good old Texas flint arrowhead. I just was amazed...

There is a great amount of historic volcanic activity in California, which obsidian is a result.

Can be found in the Channel Islands, and also in Oregon and Washington states.
