This coin read out on the E-Tracs conductive scale at 18 some gold rings read like that for me in past. It is bigger than a quarter and appears to be a nickel alloy. It has stars and text that protrudes on the outside edge of the coins rim also. Appears to have stars and " G R A N D I " on the rim. If anyone knows what country minted this coin please let us know , thanks :headbang:

Thanks deepsecrets 8-) Really an unusual find in the middle of the continental U.S. I immediately realized it was a foreign coin as soon as it popped out of the mucky soil. And immediately waved it in front of my coil to check readout to be sure that I had extracted my intended target.

I spent a number of years in Spain with USN. We had a number of bases there and your coin could have come back with a service member. I dumped many 25 ptas coins into slot machines at local bars outside the base in Rota Spain!

Dating the 25 Pesetas may seem easy since it says 1957, but they had that date on them for 20 years or better. The six pointed star under the eagles shoulder will contain the two digit date. Nice find, always interesting to find something that sticks out from the clad.

Hi david680 interesting. It looks like the star says 10 to me. But hard to be sure so if it is 10 then you add that to 1957 then to get 1967 ?

Hmm 10 doesn't make any sense in 2010 Franco was long gone, maybe its just too eroded to read.

The rim will read: UNA - GRANDE - LIBRE.
if it had read:
UNA - LIBRE - GRANDE you would have a rare coin.
Premium value will also occur to your coin if it has one of the following #s in the star:
star number 58: $10
star number 61: $35
star number 71: $5
star number 73: $60
star number 75: $3
letters BA in place of star: $60; otherwise, it is considered a common coin (face value).
Don......

They were issued from 1958-75. I would suggest yours is probably a 1970.
