Found button in back yard

My sons new ace 150 came in today i wanted to try it out . So i went out to the back yard found some clad and this button i looked it up and its a naval cival war button i cant get a closeup of it but i found this pic it is the same . was there any knock off buttons this button looks just like the pic. I hope it is real if not it was still fun

Pretty cool find. I know nothing about buttons, Civil War or otherwise, but I'd be happy with finding one. Keep searching that backyard.

Very cool... is there any chance you can read the words on the back (the backmark)? That will help determine when it was made and by whom it was made. If there is NO backmark, that is also helpfull...

Nice find! I actually dug my first military button yesterday too, you can view my post at "first time at my 1800's property" thread. Mine was all crusty on back too and I cleaned it up with small fine brass wire brush and some dish detergent. It cleaned up nice and the words "horstmann Philadelphia" appeared (circa. 1893-1935). Good luck in your research!
