Be sure and check the mint mark. There is a D over S variety for that year that is a key date.

It's amazing what is still out there in circulation. I picked up a 1954s nickel the other day, and then got to checking the old red book, and saw that there was an overstrike of S on D, so checked mine, and found that it was one of the overstrikes. An instant keeper. Keep checking that change. New (old) stuff turns up there everyday too.

Two weeks ago I found a 1900 V nickle in a tip jar.
A feller who I know got a Merc dime out of the till at his job.
And I have recently found a 1944 nickle.
Now just to get those pesky Morgan dollars out of circulation!
