Found this stone in Western Illinois in a farm field after a heavy rain. It appears to be man made with the etching and carving, similar but not exactly like some of the celts or nutting stones I've found pictured online. Measures 7" x 6.5" at the widest portions. Can anyone help identify or is it just a "rock"? Thank you! IMG_3497.JPG IMG_3496.JPG IMG_3498.JPG IMG_3499.JPG IMG_3497.JPG IMG_3496.JPG IMG_3498.JPG IMG_3499.JPG

Welcome to the forum Bigchief!

The etching on your piece is the result of many implement strikes.

What I see is a chunk of rock that broke off a bigger rock/boulder that has been hit by heavy equipment a couple of times.. (Plow strikes, bulldozer, backhoe, etc.)

Sorry, I agree with quito and joshuaream, natural stone with equipment strikes.

Thanks all. Neat forum and appreciate the opinions. Looks like this rock took some abuse over the years!
