...best bell that is. I don't dig these too often but they are always a treat. This is only the second intact sheep's bell that I have dug. Not pictured are several buckles, harmonica reeds, several buttons, some misc. lead and assorted doodads. I did picture one button because of the fancy backmark. Thanks for looking.

Bells like that are dear to my heart. . . back in the 1920's when my mother and uncle
were children in Sweden, they each wore a bell similar to the one you found (only smaller)
around their neck so my grandparents would always know where they were.

That's really a wonderful find!

All I can get off the back of the button is "GILT" in fancy script.

Hmmmmmmmn, seen similar finds before ::) I wish I could date the bell more closely, the site I found it at dated from early 1800's to 1880's, but it could be later. The button, I believe that it is consistant with 1820-1840's.
