I went detecting to my local park here in NJ which was originally called Camp Olden. It was a civil war training ground. I decided to go to a wooded area in the park. I got a good signal and dug up this round disc item. I took it home and cleaned it up a little. It says "Wells and Provost Proprietors NY Patent July 18 1854" I did some reasearch on it and found it's a powder can top to a 25 lb cannister of gunpowder. I'm going back there soon to see if I can find any more relics.

Gregg its about 3" in diameter. Google "Civil war gunpowder lid" and search images. I found the same one on a relic sale site.
