Guys i just joined today but i found this a few weeks ago! My first specimen piece find!!! This is a quartz piece i found near a mine shaft somewhere off of highway 132 here in california. :hello2: and seems to have a quite bit of gold in it as it makes my whites gmt go off like crazy even when i hold it a foot or foot and a half away from the coil. (by the way i have the DD shooter, the small coil). I just now need a person that can dip it in acid for me as i do not want to crush it and want it as a specimen piece. There seems to be a tiny bit of gold on the outside of it but i am confident the good stuff is on the inside. Sorry about the quality picture guys just zoom in and you will see the gold. Oh by the way i found 3 pieces in a matter of 2 hours which got me really stoked. The second two pieces were smaller and seem to have less gold in them. Anyways let me know what you all think!

Nice chunk! I have very little experience with specimen pieces. From the looks of the visible surface gold, it would appear to me that there might be too much "separation" between the pieces of gold? I guess acid would still be better than crushing it, you just might get a bunch of smaller specimens, which could still be pretty and nicer than smashed chunks? Maybe hit it a few more times and you'll find something real sweet and you could just put this one "on the back burner"!

By "hit it" I mean detecting your spot, not hammering the specimen! LoL.
BTW, if you need help carrying any huge nuggets out of your spot, I'm your neighbor up here on HWY 120, Tuolumne county... Lemme know! ;)
