Found my first large cent after 43 + years of MDing

I decided to go out for a little bit this morning to an old park that years ago had some kind of inn or something there. One of the first things I found was this 1849 large cent. I got a reading of between a silver dime and penny and dug down 7" or so. In the dirt by the side of the hole I saw a coin larger than a quarter and it looks like it said one cent or two cent on it. I thought it was a two cent piece at first , then saw the one cent. It didn't look real at first, probably because I have been looking for one for over 43 years. When I flipped it over, I saw the 1849 and I said yes! Finally! Thanks for looking!!

thats in great shape. i found one since ive been detecting and you could only make out the wreath and one cent on the back if you get it wet and hold it just right... yours is in much better shape congrats

I bet you were surprised to see that come out of the hole! First one in 43 years!!

Sure am glad to see that it cleaned up pretty nice. Who knows, maybe there is another one there waiting for you!

When I got my first metal detector 27 years ago, one of the things I really wanted to find was a Large Cent. Well my brother borrowed the detector right after I got it and went out and found a Large Cent on his first time out. I finally found my large cent and many more since. Congratulations on your first! Now go find a Half Cent!!
