I was really excited to dig this awesome little silver yesterday ! My first Trime/ 3 cent silver, it is also my oldest U.S. silver. It's hard to see, but it looks to me like an 1853. It might be a little worn, but I'm certainly pleased with it!
Very nice!!! During my first year of detecting my buddy found 2 trimes in 15 minutes in a yard permission in front of my very eyes. He had a low end detector. It gave me a false impression of how easy they were to find. Now I know how hard they are to find as I have not found one yet with a better detector! I know one will come along some day! Congrats on hard coin to find!
You all in the Northeast kill it with coins. Almost every time someone posts an unusual coin find in a decent or better condition, it is you all up in the northeast. That is so cool. Great coin.
Congratulations on your 3 cent piece. Being that they're so tiny it's easy to understand why they are a scarce find.
I found the one on the left at an old train station site that is now wooded lake shore area. The signal was so weak that I almost walked past it. Glad I did some digging...I dug ANY signal after that. Found a 1855 Canadian 5 cent piece less than a foot away. Both were 6 inches deep. Also found a cool RR tag on the same site.
Mid 19th century silver is scarce in my area too. While Spanish silver is fairly plentiful (I've found 70), I have only found 5 US silvers dated between 1827 and 1857, including one badly worn trime.
That thing is in mint condition compared to the one I found last week. It’s the little silver disc in between the 2 flipped coins. The flipped trime is my first from last year, just a little 17 signal on my Nox. I make a point of digging that signal when even I get one no matter how faint or choppy. Congrats!!!!!!!!
