Went to a French historical location in New Orleans from the early 1700's. Not saying it's that old, but also not sure either. But I have acid tested it and passes with flying colors 100%. Does anyone have any idea off what it might been from and/or possible age?? Thank you ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1496547032.614136.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1496547101.784281.jpg

UPDATE:::: I think I figured out what it is! Now I which I knew how old. Looks like it's old silver with a black patina. IMG_0069.PNG

What did you determine the object to be originally ? It must have been something special back in the day to have been made of silver. Cool find, Thanks for sharing !

So what is it? It's not a religious cross. It appears to be a box of some sort that had been flattened out, looks like to me. It's missing something though. Also, I know you said it passes the acid test, but it sure doesn't look like it's sterling silver. Looks more like modern tin in the photo. Not saying you're wrong, just saying what it looks like from my perspective.

Looks like it might have surrounded a wooden box or some kind of box at some point. As decoration I would assume.

Doesn't look like tin to me. The shiny kinda throws me off a little but no telling if it is silver what it is alloyed with? Need a small neodome test magnet.

Well clearly it was once folded into a box like configuration - but what was it ? I'm gonna guess it's furniture related, it may well be missing parts too .Until somebody nails it , I guess we just have to embrace the mystery .

I dont have a neodome magnet, but I do have a fishing magnet and it sticks very very little when it's on a 45 degree angle

I think it is a concho from a saddle or bridle. A decoration of horses tack in other words.

This was a saddle Ronald Reagan wore in parades. Pueblo, Colorado was once known as "The Saddle Capital of the World"
