Just started metal detecting a week ago and tonight I found this pin/broach? in a hole about 4 inches deep in my parent's backyard. Their house was built in 1900 and the town was founded about 1850. Was hoping somebody might be able to date this item. There are no markings on it at all. The peice in the middle that looks like a gem is actually plastic. Perhaps old bakelite or celluloid? Definately a neat find but is it valuable?
