Found this at the cellar hole I been working lately. It is super light so thought it was aluminum but not sure. It measures 25mm and weighs 1.7 grams. 84 on one side and 5 on the other. It's got me scratching my head...any ideas what it might be?
It sure looks like a trade token - is there a ¢ sign to the right of the 5? Unfortunately, finding a good attribution for this piece is going to be a challenge. The 84 might be an address - I have a token in my collection that just says 821 on its obverse - that was the number on Main street where the business was. Aluminum was pretty commonly used for trade tokens.

Was using a toothpick last night trying to get the corrosion off to look for a ¢ symbol and discovered it's holed. Probably never know what it's for but out of all the tokens I've found, this is my first holed one. Pretty cool! Into the mystery jar it goes.
Since it's holed, it may have been an equipment tag. It could still be a token. I have found several that had "good for 5c in trade" and the other side was just a number. I have have heard of them referred to as "railroad tokens" but I'm not a token expert.
It could be an employee check tag or " time card". Years ago when they showed up for work, they hung their number on a board with hooks on it, & that's how the employer new they were at work. This was especially true for mining companies. Ron
