nice trap !
if old I'm surprised no teeth.
did you check the area for an ID tag ?
I know if it is old enough it may have been there before ID tags were mandatory,
But would be cool if there is one
Conibear trap. Not for hunting.Model 220 probably. No teeth required. Not a foothold trap but a bodygrip.
Not real old. Condition is of one from the seventies cared for and stored out of the elements during off season.
Still made today though and could only be a couple years old.
If law allows and water is navigable trapping can be done from water.
Too, some landowners grant permission or even seek out trappers.
There is a twist of wire on the ring at end of chain that may have held the trap i.d. tag required in most states.
The cheaper tags are about like aluminum beverage can thickness in strength.
It does seem to have spent a couple years exposed outdoors, more than that maybe if under water.
Might be other finds in the area if trapping has been constant over time.
Nokta FoRs Gold, a Gold Cube, 2 Keene Sluices and Lord only knows how many pans....not to mention a load of other gear my wife still doesn't know about!
Good call RelevantChair..it's actually a Duke 280. The 330's are
more like 9"-10" opening, and the 220's are 7". A powerhouse for
badger, fisher and other mid-sized furbearers. At one point I had
3 dozen of 'em in my arsenal.
bcarmack: Please, don't try to set it unless you know exactly what
you're doing, cause that trap can break bones. Also, just because
there is no hunting in an area doesn't mean it's closed for trapping.
