Went up to superstitious mountains area today to clean some pools and I guess there was a huge storm that flooded everywhere. Found this while checking out a a spot where the huge flood came down. It is heavy smells like metal does not react to hcl and non magnetic and has some kind of blackish coating . Hit it with a hammer and it would not break just small indents. The first pic of the black rock is before I soaked it in hcl

If you take a knife, can you slice a piece off of it?
Have you tried taking it to a jeweler or pawn shop, some where that buys gold.?
How about taking it ot a mining place. Go to Promack mining, North side of the trail in AJ. The old blue napa store East of walmart.

Then let me know what the results are. If they are great, you and I can take my MDs out there. I will loan you one of mine.
PM me if interested. I have a Whites goldmaster. And a Gerrett machine.

Do not tell anyone where you found it!

Take it to a jewelry store. Ask them if they can acid test it. They'll most likely do it for free. Don't forget to tell them you think its gold.

My guess is no. Something odd about it. Get it tested.

Out of curiosity what made you pick up and take home a black rock?
haha it's like the people who buy lottery tickets but never win. It's the hope I will find a big nugget one day just laying around next to some rocks I don't even know if actually finding a gold nugget is as exciting as thinking you found one hahahah

do you really think I would paint a rock I'm not that in to it, keep your stupid comments to yourself.

He didn't say you did it. People have been known to paint rocks as a joke.

There is another thread on here where someone else was fooled by a gold painted rock. He left it there to fool the next person.

And you were in a very well known gold producing area. I bet there is a few more out there somewhere.

There are those that will take a mold from a rock and pour molted brass into the mold. So think twice how you react to comments. I too said it looks like a painted rock four post above. I choose my word very selectively so not to say you painted the rock, just as davidb wrote.

If you want to know if it's a painted rock take a sledgehammer and pound on it.. A rock should break. Or just put it in paint thinner... Or acid...

sorry about being a jerk I guess I took it the wrong way. By the way here are some more photos. It's weird cause it has some kind of blackish stain that won't come off even with HCL and when I take a pice of it it turns out looking like gold ha. Like something good could be hiding under neath the stain going to let it soak for a few more days and then take somewhere if it looks promising. Also got this piece of quartz same place same day

I don't think anyone can really tell by seeing pics. The quartz looks promising to me though. Hope it turns out to be gold! If it does don't tell anyone about the location or there could be a modern day gold rush lol.
