Got out with Tony for a full day of detecting at a couple sites. First site is one we've only hunted once a couple years ago but wanted to try it again with the larger coil on my AT Pro. There were targets left and my favorite find was the railroad switch key first for me! The decent George III copper I gave to the land owner to assure our return...he was thrilled to have it.

At the next site I dug the Rail Road Signal button and when I first saw it I thought for sure it was milotary...strike one. Found a couple coppers in decent condition and then found the fallacy flat button . . . again, when I saw that I thought "yes...military" ...strike two. The third button was the floral two piece button . . . again, I thought military at first...strike three.

On the way out I got a real sketchy signal and out popped the military . . . finally!!! It's a Victorian era Nova Scotia Militia cuff button. I've found a coat button but this is my first cuff. These all have iron backs which accounts for the sketchy signal. Not immensly old but I was very happy to dig it!

Like the button, but also the counterfeit George III. Don't remember what family it belongs to but is very distinct with the long neck.

It's very interesting how 2 or 3 of these made it to the same site because it tends to suggest they came right from the source, or at least the area. Now if you found the die that would be quite a find! Still doesn't prove they were struck there but still a die is a die. Cast coins and a mold means very little, but a die would get a few people talking because this is a British and not a North American struck counterfeit halfpenny. I'd rather find a counterfeit halfpenny coin die than any common large old silver coin. All are very rare.

That's a good hand full of finds for a days dig.
2 RR items in a day seems rare...to me ?
Coincidentally your last dig of the day is the same button I got in my first hole yesterday, mine is in a bit worse condition.

Pretty sure (99.99)your last spring found copper is not the same coin. Can't see the neck too good on second coin, but angle between arm, and leg seems a bit different for one. Bar above date different for two.

EDIT not to steal your thread, but this is the one I dug yesterday.

And I do have a cuff sized one that does not have an iron back ? Which puzzeled me when found.
