French trade axhead

Found this on my property a couple weeks ago. Mohawk Indian village was destroyed by french and Hurons in the 1680's. 20200315_131635.jpg

Its currently soaking in evapo rust. It was down 11 or 12 inches.

I'm in central new york state. It doesn't hurt to have a Mohawk village as part of your property.

Looks a lot newer than 16-1700s to me. What shape is the hole for the handle?? I doesn't have a hand forged look to it.

Luke, more of these were used in the east than the west, remember in colonial times central NY was the frontier.

Nice find and deep too, yours will look nice once it is cleaned up..

Here is one I found in 1985 in mid Missouri West of Booneville, Mo while hunting indian artifacts. Use to be old fort in same area found in the very early 1800s.

Thats a nice find. I have found some old ax heads in the fields but none that old.
