I swear! This hobby just NEVER ceases
to amaze! LOL

Just a short 2 hour walk at the clad-farm.
Now, this place is just a large park, sports
complex. I would expect the usual cast of
characters, clad, occasional bling, pulltabs, etc.
So, imagine my surprise on this find.

I'm toward the end of my walk, moving toward the
car when I get this beautiful 90 in any direction
and loud! An obvious, near surface hit. But, I'd
gotten a similar signal earlier. Turned out to be
two clad quarters, back to back. So, I wasn't
thinking much about it when I peeled back a very
shallow plug.

Now, I've found some pretty nicely conditioned coins.
But, this!? Well, either this has been lying
just under the grass for 168 years, or, this was
somebody's "lucky coin" and it was dropped recently.

I've done nothing to it but brush it off. You
can decide but as for me? Whether it was a recent
drop or not just doesn't matter. all I know is it's
mine now! :)

It sure stands out from the rest of the day don't it! LOL

Mysteries abound. A stump pulled a while back ,or downed tree removed? A crow find a coin somewhere?
Take them as they come I guess?

Fishy is ready for a downhill run. C'mon winter! :tongue3:

Really nice and in good shape too! I think you were right about it being a "lucky coin." Either that or some kid raided their parents coin collection!

"One just never knows!"

These are words that just seem to get truer and truer!

Thanks folks!

Another thing that struck me was my path. I was using the blind squirrel method. Wandering all over, basically doing a surface skim. Not fast but not really full hunting mode. This place has miles of grass! And yet....as HE always does, in all that "wilderness" , HE led me right over top a signal like this!!! :notworthy:

Yeah, I know, last time I actually dug a deep one of any shape was the one that I posted in the "Best Finds" forum when I first got here.

The shape this one is in? Even though it had been there long enough to be encased in its own little cocoon of grass roots. I really figure its a fresh drop. I could be wrong, its happened before:tongue3:.

Tell you a quick story.

I hit this park which had old deep stuff(7-9 inches) and It had a lot of zincs pennies too. I was working this patch and this zinc penny signal on the surface I hit a dozen times and just walked by it. Finally, I got so frustrated with that in zinc the way, I decided to get it out of there. just IN the grass, right on the surface, was an indian head penny 1906(I think). It looked like it was just dropped yesterday. It had the traditional brown patina(but weathered). No way was that a recent drop. It just happens that way.
