From my dad's estate

I lost my dad on January 8. My brother and I have been going thru things and we found two of these. One was completely clear glass and this one is solid black. They are identical except for that. I kept this one, I can't find any markings at all on it. I can't find the exact piece anywhere on the web. Lord know, I have tried. Maybe someone has an idea.

I'm pretty sure that was made in the 1970s by L. E. Smith Glass Co., and that the pattern is called "Herringbone". I'm not positive, but other people online are calling it that--I just don't trust them because I can't find any hard reference and people online tend to copy each other's mistakes. LOL

is this completely opaque or will a strong light shine thru. Some Amethyst glass is so dark it looks black untill a really strong light passes through it and then you see the purple.
