Do you know the history of it and how your grandparent acquired it?

Welcome Matt and congratulations!

That's a whole click above Alcatraz! Landsberg/Lech was the first prison opened expressly to confine Nazi war criminals that were to be executed including many from Dachau. It was opened in 1945 and closed in 1958. The facility was known as a castle/fortress type prison and is where Adolf Hitler was imprisoned and wrote "Mein Kampf". It was on par with what we call a maximum security facility. and also housed some Japanese war criminals destined for execution. The official US Army designation was War Criminal Prison Number 1, just like the engraving says. Salutes to your granddad!

This is a monumental find and thanks for posting! Banner!

I'm hoping your Gandad's MP uniform is still in your family! A word of advice, get a safety deposit box!

We do have a couple more things from lenchburg, but the best stuff is the Alcatraz collection that was received when it was shutdown. He was the main locksmith for nearly the whole time... someday I’ll post more on these but it’s kinda sensitive to the family as of now
