Today I wasn't going to go. It happened to be my Dad's 100th birthday. Lost him just a couple years ago.

But, sitting around, moping, remembering was getting to me. I didn't feel like working so I decided to just go for a walk around a couple playgrounds. :dontknow:

First one got absolutely nothing! Moved on.

You need to know something to understand the "funny" story. You see I have a "quota" I try to fill every time out. I set it really low. Two bucks.

I got to the next playground and I was just thinking, "At this rate I won't be getting my quota today!".

Very shortly after I got this weird signal. (I was being persnickety about what I would dig today)

So...I dug anyway:

I said, "Thank you, Dad."

Not too terrible a day afterall:

Fishy's happy:

But....the following is going on display in my house. I thought, big deal! Just another corroded penny I couldn't read in the field.:dontknow:

When I got home and cleaned a bit I found out just how special this coin is to me. Especially today and why I was out there.

Anyone see why this is now my favorite coin of all time? Remember, I was just playing around in wood chips and got this a couple inches deeper.

Might not qualify as "banner" on here, but it sure is in my house!

Thanks for peeking folks and sharing a *very* special moment for me.

That's great ! Your Dad is watching over you & it's his way of telling you that everything is A-OK. Coins from our loved ones' birth years are
ALWAYS "very special" finds. Thanks for sharing your story.

I am more convinced the older I get that there are very few "coincidences" in life....but a whole lot of "appointments" with destiny via the Almighty's Hand.
Soli Deo Gloria...

Don't you just love those little "personalised" messages?
A treasure with meaning.

I'd say you had a fantastic time digging in the wood chips.

I would suggest claiming the $2 coin before Blingie gets too attached to it.
Fishy is cherry picking his prize.

Lifting of the spirits is priceless.

Nicely done sir, on all counts.

Great, great story! My Dad and I used to collect wheat pennies. I lost him 5 years ago and still think of him every day. Whenever I find a penny on the ground, I say "Thanks, Dad!" Many times the find is so coincidental with something connected to my father that it is freaky. Too complicated to explain here but it's enough to make me believe he's still here with me.

Well, you see, if the quota is too high, you tend to be constantly disappointed.;)

I believe that we tend to forget there are things we just don't know. Even if I'm wrong, it still feels good.

Nice find Whadi. It looks like a 1918 so I'd guess it was the year your dad was born. I do believe they watch over us and send signs. I lost my dad 3 years ago October, and that whole first year after he died, all I dug was 1943 Mercs, 1943 Walking Libs, 1943 Quarters, etc. You can probably guess what year he was born by now. I even found 1943 foreign coins in rolls from the banks, and my first ever 1943 steel penny while coin roll searching ! I have searched thousands of pennies, and never found a 43 steel until shortly after he died. One of the toppers though was on an outing I found a medallion dated 1943. Those types of finds have tapered off, but I do believe he was relating to me through a way I would know he was still around, thru my treasure hunting hobby. You just have to believe ! I'm happy your dad let's you know he is still with you. Ron
