Came across this neat little critter while weeding out the garden this afternoon

Excavator, Actually the black and yellow garden spider are quite common in all of the lower 48 states. As a kid I had to help my father collect specimens of these in nearly every state, as his life's work was researching the molecular structure of their web (as odd as that sounds).
