Garnets instead of Gold

My brother and I hit the river this morning hoping to find some gold. We kind of struck out on that, but we did find a large amount of nice garnets. Some were almost pea sized.

We were classifying, panning the material and picking out the nicest garnets... Is there a more efficient way to separate the larger garnets from the sand and gravel?

Could you set up a sluice or highbanker to catch garnets? (If I had one that is...)

Best method is a jig. Like this one I built several years ago.

I appreciate the kind words, but it's nothing fancy. It does work well, though. Gems end up on top of the screen.

shake and swirl in a 20 mesh screen put a cut to fit board or thick styrofoam over the top, hold and flip
pick heavy's and gems off top layer, takes some practice.
