I saw an article that Garrett is coming out with an ATP pro 2 in 2017. Long story short i'm looking for a unicorn that isn't $2500 dollars. I want a detector that is great on land and on salt water beaches. When I lived in South Dakota I always wanted an ATP pro but now that in in Orange county and looking to beach hunt I don't think it's the right unit. I'm leaning towards the Sand Shark.

Is there any chance the new ATP pro 2 will be better in salt water?

I fear I will buy something an they will release some new unicorn model in two months haha

Doubtful it will be a good saltwater unit. That's not what the ATs are made for. They are great land and freshwater detectors for the money, and the next version is probably just going to be an updated AT Pro. You really need to go with a waterproof PI machine if you think you'll be doing a lot of beach hunting (Sand Shark is great). VLF detectors just don't handle salt very well.
