It's that time of year again! Gem O Rama out in Trona, CA Oct.8-9. Quite possibly one of the best gem shows in the world, no joke because you get to collect very rare minerals Halite & Hanksite on the lake bed. Anyone else going?

Update for this year's finds. Big, Big crystals.

Many of those crystals are over 2" long. Just unbelievable.

2 Sided Hanksite. One side is a full, terminated crystal, the other is a small cluster. Haven't seen one of these before. Like a contact zone.

The hanksite dig.

Halite was only found in good quantities in the drainage ditch this year.

It was a fun time and as always went too fast. Have to wait another year to dig.

Very nice finds! I really like that last smokey quartz cluster. Thanks for sharing. :icon_thumleft:
Eric, the cluster is called hanksite, not smokey quartz. I'd be happier if it was quartz though!

I love your trip report, thanks for sharing! That's a collecting spot I'd really love to visit, so bizarre!

I wish this stuff was more stable, but I guess some mineral oil can preserve it pretty well.

Do you ever find transparent colorless hanksites? I'd like to try faceting one...
