Many germans had to leave their homes in east prussia and other german areas in poland when the red army was on their advance to Berlin. Most of them had only what they are wearing. They cant take much with them. Very very sad. Russian army shot the "Trecks", drove over the wagons, horses and refugees. Civilians were shot without reason. Only for being german. Statistics say that only 5 percent of the woman between 10 and 80 NOT beeing raped through russian soldiers...

An unknown number of people died in the cold winter of 44/45. For myself i had relatives with a very big farm there. They lost all they had. But they survived when tenth of thousands died....

These are relics of a very dreadful history.

My ancestors (Ströde) are from the town of Schwenz, a short distance to the northeast. The town now has a Polish name, "Swiniec", I believe. I would be interested to know if your map shows Schwenz in any detail. Again, congratulations on your awesome find! Andy

Schwenz and around is a good place to find old coins.
I live in Kreis Greifenberg, which borders the east Cammin Kreis.
So I do not have accurate maps of the village Kreis Cammin but as you can find them. If you had any information about the location of the building in which your ancestors lived, I can do up to date pictures and send you
