Gerstner & Sons box, Display cabinet. Gift from wife !!

I got the best gift EVER yesterday from my TOTALLY AWSOME wife !

Vintage, Gerstner & Sons machinists tool box! The box has been refurbished, but is in incedible shape. Quarter sawn oak, finger joints at the corners. Looks like the original hardware. The key is missing so some one added the little "flipper" at the top. The back has been replaced, the felt is new and it has been refinished on the outside. Original leather handle. I think it is an early model # 31 Any one with info on the box please chime in

I have started to fill it with relics and coins.........

About two months ago I changed jobs after being a fine hardwood furniture builder for 10 years. I feel qualified to say that this box is very well built.

Gerstner & Sons started the company in 1906. This box is one of the early ones. ( I think ) If you google Gerstner & Sons model 31, you will see a 100 year anniversary cabinet. I have not been able to find a box just like it. All that I find are leather covered. I have seen a picture or two of an 8 drawer box like mine but the handle is a little different and the corners of the box are not finger jointed. Repro
For $50.00 I can send detailed pics with information on any writing on the inside of the box, etc. There is a serial # on the lock and Gerstner may be able to send me a key.

That's a great looking display case!
When I first saw it I thought . . . maybe it had belonged

I have one of the Gerstner Dental Boxes! Gerstner is from my hometow Dayton Ohio. I got mine at a garage sale...I won't say what I paid for it but when I asked the price I was so glad to hear it I didn't even try to bargain!! It is the leather covered model and it still had dental drills in it.
