That sucks man. I lost my job a few years ago as a Network Analyst for a Telecom company. And have been bartending every since. I can't find anything in my field. I highly suggest looking into bartending or working in a casino if your state has them. Lots of money to be made for part time work.

Sorry to hear your loss. But this actually opens up a lot of options for you.
If you were at this company a long time,,, did they offer you an "early out" package? Also you MAY have an age suit if you find out that someone was hired to replace you that's younger.

This worries me too,,,I'm getting "up there" in years,,, my salary is excellent for my position and it would NOT surprise me if one day I was approached with an "early out" offer, or just "laid off".
But a layoff in my company is pretty rare.
Crap man,,I would be all over it if an early retirement was offered .

Now back to you finding a "job". If this was me,, I would take something I love,,or have had an interest in but never had a chance to do. And make a living at it.
It could be making rustic furniture,,artsy stuff,,, whatever floats your boat man.
This IS your chance to hopefully ,,, finally being happy with yourself.
Shoot man,,, do some research,,,write a book,,,GO METAL DETECTING,,,,.

What you do NOT want to do is dwell on losing your job,,,this would affect you mentally,,you know,,the "self worth" dilemma we all have at midlife.

Enjoy life,, look around and take your time figuring out the next step,,,

Just a few fragmented thoughts
