I have found a rebel picket or camp... on the map. Digginman and I agree that x marks the spot.
The place is 1.5 hours drive away, and it looks like it's int he middle of the woods, with the nearest house 500-1000 yards or so away. Is there an online resource for looking up who owns what property in a given city/county?

I could fire off the permission letter immediately.

As always, any help would be greatly appreciated...

If you know the county, go to its' website. I think most counties have one. Then look for the assesors page, and then property listings. You should be able to find who owns it. If they have no website, look for the courthouse phone number under anywho.com. Good luck.

Blurr is correct. Many county wed sites have the information available. I have instructions for the Fairfax site. It is sort of convoluted to finally get to the owners name. If it were me, I'd drive there and start knocking on doors. Letters and phone calls are too easy to ignore.

I agree. Do some more research in that area, and have several spots to approach owners about. That way you're likely to have a good spot to hunt that day. Drive out there on a Saturday when folks are likely at home, and knock on the door of the nearest house. If they don't own it, they know who will. Write down the name and look up their address in a local phone book if needs be. If there's enough CW activity for there to be a picket post there, then where's the camp? :o Hedge your bets with multiple sites and you won't be disappointed.

I always look to see if a particular county has a "GIS" mapper. If it does you can usually find out who owns the property and even how much it is taxed. Its kind of scary how much info you can find out online.. :o
